Another Story About the BCS Moving Toward a Playoff

Here comes the latest story of BCS bigwigs getting together and deciding that college football's postseason needs to be fixed. All the conference commissioners have agreed that there should be a four team, three game playoff at the end of the season. Now comes the tricky part: hammering out the details.

The first hurdle is taking the plan to the individual conferences. And each school at each conference will have their say.

Significant questions will be asked. Actually, the questions are basic but significant sums of money depend on the answers. When would the games be played? Where would the games be played?

Who would control the money from TV contracts, tickets, and sponsors? How would it be distributed? Would the 6 conference BCS still exist as an entity, or would conferences get cash rewards for sending teams to this 4 team playoff.

Would it be the top 4 ranked teams, regardless of conference? Would it be the top 4 conference champs?

What about the bowls? The conferences love them because they guarantee a consistent stream of money each year. But their luster is fading. Conference championship games are drawing funds from fans that would otherwise be spent on bowl games. And when smaller programs reach the top tier bowls, they struggle to fill their hotel allotment. UConn lost money when they went to the Fiesta Bowl.

The Rose Bowl is still stuck in the 1930's and wants their BigTen/Pac-12 matchup protected. So a compromise will have to be made there.

If the conferences are truly motivated to get this done, it'll get done. These are hurdles, not roadblocks.

I think we all want to see a playoff system. I think 8 teams would be perfect. I'd settle for 6. But for right now, I'll take a 4 team playoff.

I just hope that the scumbags that run the bowls and the old bastards that run some of the conferences don't ruin it.

Arkansas Fires Bobby Petrino

"Arkansas fired head coach Bobby Petrino on Tuesday, publicly dressing him down for unfairly hiring his mistress and intentionally misleading his boss about everything from their relationship to her presence at the motorcycle accident that ultimately cost him his job (ESPN)."

This story just kept getting worse. At first it was just a motorcycle accident. Then there was some young girl on the back. Then we found out he lied to the school about the girl. Then we find out the relationship between him and this girl was "inappropriate". Then we find out that Bobby had hired this girl for a position with the school. Then we find out that she was completely unqualified for that position.

He really didn't leave the school much choice here but to get rid of him. It's a big loss for this program, but I really don't see much other option. It was bad enough when it was just infidelity, but you can have a guy hiring girls to bang on your campus (plus lying). I bet he gets another job somewhere in a year or so, but it would be in Arkansas.

Oh That Dirty Bobby Petrino

"Bobby Petrino's image of perfection has come to a sudden and surprising end at Arkansas. The Razorbacks coach was put on paid administrative leave on Thursday night less than seven hours after his boss, athletic director Jeff Long, learned Petrino had failed to disclose he had been riding with a female employee half his age when his motorcycle skidded off the road over the weekend. Petrino said he had been concerned about protecting his family and keeping an "inappropriate relationship from becoming public (ESPN)."

Wow, this stroy has changed quickly. At first everyone was feeling bad for him and hoping for the best, now it sounds like he was banging some 25 year old that worked for the school. In these cases I have been pretty consistent. I don't care what people do with their personal lives, but the fact she works for the school is probably going to be a problem, and he could be gone.
