Patriots Cut Anthony Gonzalez

The Patriots have cut Anthony Gonzalez. There was a lot of interest if the 27-year-old slot WR could have a bounce back season after injuries have crushed him over the past few years. Yet, it seems that either these injuries (thumb, foot, knee, shoulder, hamstring, back and groin) are still a problem, or they really just signed him because they were worried that thing with Welker might not go well.

Whatever the reason this isn't a major loss. The Patriots still have 11 WRs on their roster, so this won't be the last well known WR to be cut by the Patriots before the season starts. Plus, the Patriots already have Welker, Julian Edelman and rookie Jeremy Ebert to play the slot.

Redskins Cut Jabar Gaffney

Jabar Gaffney led the Redskins WRs in every category last year (receptions (68), receiving yards (947) and touchdown receptions (5)), but it wasn't enough for him to keep his job. Redskins signed free-agent receivers Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan this offseason, and spent a lot of money doing so. I guess I just assumed they would cut Santana Moss instead, but it seems like he will be back.

Gaffney won't be a free agent long. Teams around the league are looking to upgrade their wide WRs, we saw that this offseason, so expect him to be picked up quickly. I would think the Dolphins would be a team that would look at him after losing Marshall.
