Celtics Get Screwed Out Of Awards

San Antonio's Greg Popovich won the NBA Coach of the Year and New York's Tyson Chandler won Defensive Player of the Year. Cool, but they didn't deserve it. Your own Glenn "Doc" Rivers and Kevin Garnett should have been the award winners in both catagories. Sure the Spurs were tied for the best record in the West, sure they are an older team, but they also have a lot of good younger players surrounding Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobelli.

While all Doc Rivers has done is take a team that is in year 5 of a 3 year plan and have them win their division and finish with a 38 and 26 record in a condensed schedule. Oh and during the year he lost Jeff Green due to a heart issue, and Green was going to be a giant part of the offense this year. He also lost the only 2 Centers on the roster in Jermaine O'Neal and Chris Wilcox and put it together with KG and an unknown rookie Greg Stiemsma. He also lost Ray Allen and began the career of Avery Bradley who looked like a bust until Doc made him a 2. On top of that he rejuvenated Kevin Garnetts career moving him to Center and he responded by having his best numbers since 2008. Doc Rivers deserves to be the COTY and it's a slap in his face he was 5th in the voting.

Speaking of Kevin Garnett, how Tyson Chandler got the Defensive Player of the Year on a bad Knicks team is beyond me. The Celtics had the 2nd best defensive team in the league and KG is a big part of that. KG leads a team defense and kills individual match ups. The Knicks as a team let up 5 more points as a team, and I understand that he has a lot less defensive play makers, but they are a lot younger and 5 points is a lot.
