Flopping Is A "Legitimate Concern"
"I think it's time to look at (flopping) in a more serious way," Stern said, "because it's only designed to fool the referee. It's not a legitimate play in my judgment. I recognize if there's contact (you) move a little bit, but some of this is acting. We should give out Oscars rather than MVP trophies."
Good! Finally this is being addressed. I hate flopping in the NBA, it takes away from the game and it's so annoying. The refs need to recognize flopping and not call those plays at all. I'll start with my favorite non-Celtic play in the playoffs so far, it's when Danillo Gallinari bumped into Pau Gasol and was rolling around on the ground as if he got shot, and the ref didn't call a foul and in fact you could hear the ref say, "get up", his flopping ultimately led to a Laker 3 point that really hurt the Nuggets in that game. That's how the NBA should handle flopping, I don't know who that ref is, but I would applause him.
I don't know if there is a way to stop flopping unless you call a foul on it, but because it's such a judgement call, I don't think they can go that far. I don't really know what they can do, but I believe the refs need a major overhaul anyways. I'm sick of watching LeBron and the Heat, when you see LeBron flailing around like an asshole on the defensive end and seeing the refs actually call it in his favor. Or just the Clippers in general.
I'm for any punishment for flopping..... In any sport actually.
