Rangers @ Red Sox Preview

Wow, last night was ugly. I really thought Lester wouldn't have a game like that. I hope it's a one game thing, but that was one of the worst I have seen in awhile. Tonight we get Derek Holland vs. Josh Beckett.

Beckett perfectly sums up the Red Sox season so far, up and down. In his first start he went 4 2/3 innings letting up 7 ERs and 5 of those runs coming from HRs. In his next start he went 8 innings allowing just 1 run. What I do find a bit alarming about Beckett is that he had just 1 K in that outing, and has just 4 in 12 2/3 innings of work.

Things won't be easy for Beckett tonight. We saw what this Texas lineup can do last night, and Beckett is 0-1 with a 7.79 ERA in three career starts versus Texas at Fenway. One guy that just owns Beckett is Hamilton, he is 6-14 (.429) with 2 HRs.

Going against Beckett is Derek Holland, who is my favorite player not on the Red Sox (Lester is my favorite player overall). He is coming off his first full year in the majors and did a damn good job going 16-5 with a 3.95 ERA. He seems to be picking up where he left off as he is 1-0 with 3.38 ERA in 2 starts and has 13 Ks in 13 1/3 innings. The one thing I must point out against those two starts is that they were against Seattle and the White Sox, so the Red Sox should be more of a challenge, but I guess that depends on what Red Sox lineup shows up tonight.

I have no stat to throw at you as to why the Red Sox will win tonight. The only thing I can say is PRIDE. They need to show some, because that was disgusting last night. I'm going to say they will show some tonight, but like I said I got nothing to back that up.

Red Sox win 6-5
Player of the game: Pedroia
Game starts at 7:10pm
